Oof, I'm tired.
Sep. 25th, 2005 04:54 pmAnd yet, I just pulled off about 15+ hours of sleep.
7pm-ish to 11am-ish, with a lot of 'Bwuh...?' groggy moments before rolling over and curling up again. It wasn't especially restful sleep, sadly. Ah well. Dreams about demons taking over the world and having a pet goat for no apparent reason are sensible, right? o.o;;
*thud*
Gonna get into woodburning, so... yeah. Fun times on that one. I'm off to go do some now, in fact. :-D

Any other suggestions?
Sep. 25th, 2005 06:27 pmI can think of some snide and tart remarks to add to the list, but I'm stepping on enough toes giving them the bird with my 2-weeks' notice as it is.
Talking points
- My personality does not do well in a passive environment; I prefer to be proactive, but that does not seem to be working well here. When I try to be proactive, I am told I make the department look bad, but I have trouble understanding how we *don’t* look bad when we get page-long emails from other departments telling us what we’re doing wrong. I think I missed the point where I went from the ‘top of the training curve’ to where things are now.
- My personality also, I think, is too subdued at Encore; I did not realize how stifling it would be to not be “myself” around others, but filling the ‘role’ of corporate receptionist.
- I rather enjoy working later, and have been given conflicting messages about this. Janet stays late to work without issue, Rick has says late is fine, but Janet says that I should not stay late. If working late is such a problem, I’d rather not be a problem here at Encore.
- I am bothered by the slow nature of fulfilling promises; getting hired took 3 weeks ($600 difference in wages), and I still have not received the clothing allowance that was the selling point for me to stay. Even with paperwork and bureaucratic X-checking, these things shouldn’t be that slow in coming.
- The size of the company is just too big; there are too many levels of bureacracy and too many people I don’t know. (Petty but true.) There are also too many large departments that want things a certain way, and give the receptionists the brunt of their frustration when it doesn’t go as planned. [Customer Service, for example, or Accounts Payable.] While reception is the position that would be considered the front lines, we aren’t given any defense to use, which is disconcerting. We either face angry callers being second-guessed, or angry departments because the caller asked for the wrong department. There is no win situation.
- The conflicting messages about screening calls: when I first arrived, I was told *not* to screen calls. Now, there’s a new procedure almost weekly about how to handle calls.
----
I want this typed up so I can send out the official email tomorrow a.m. and have it well-organized. I also know that I'll be called into a conference with either sup or sup's boss, so... points to make are important. I don't talk nearly as well as I write, I've noticed, so pre-printed speech it is.
(Oh, items in quotes are things that have been said to me.)

Reference: SCA garb ideas
Sep. 25th, 2005 09:47 pmMaybe I'll x-post this later. The first batch is simple, Islamic clothing that would 'fit' garb requirements for the SCA: no modern stuff like zippers, rayon, neon polyester, etc., and something that makes an attempt at a medieval look. Woo.
I like the hooded pink one. Forget which link it is.
