wakeiseiyo: (300 Battle Charge - slowly)
FYI, the Veet cream leaves a mild chemical burn rather than razor burn, and takes 10 minutes, not 6, but if you're willing to scrape with that little 'perfect touch' piece of crap like you're de-barnacle-ing the hull of an old boat, it does work. Just FYI. (Also good - put in your conditioning masque that takes forever-and-a-day, too, so you're not wasting those 10+ minutes doing diddly-squat while you sit in the tub drumming your fingers. )

Spent more money than I ought, again, on cosmetics. I bought mascara because the last 2 brands kept bothering my eyes by end of day; I'm going to try out Almay's stuff, and see where that gets me (and hey, it comes in purple). (I also bought one of those High Intensity Pigment things in a neutral pink eyeshadow, as much to see how true the advertisement was as to see how a cream shadow works differently than a powder.) Colored my hair this morning, so I don't have 3/4" of ash brown roots showing in the middle of a faded purply-brown mop of wavy frizz. Yey.

I made my annual BPAL splurge on the Lupercalia blends - none of the other LEs throughout the year ever seem to interest me as much, so the overtime I've been clocking has been earmarked to a sizeable order instead. I'm finding that Black Opal is my new favorite GC for work - it's soft and mild and still has that hint of 'I am woman hear me roar' to it. I may have to order the 5ml.

Friday was an interesting day; it started with me cussing from the start to the finish of my drive to work because of some jerkoff who tried to run me off the road so he could change lanes without braking or looking.... HATE. However, the drive home was a lovely display of instant karma - the 'Benz whipping from lane to lane to lane to lane to get ahead of the people going the speed limit ended up behind a Volvo who wasn't having any of that crap, and laid on the windshield sprinklers for about 5 seconds. Did I mention the 'Benz was a convertible? }:> It was priceless, watching that wave of water go across the front of the Benz, INTO the Benz, and right across the face of the guy driving. He pulled to the right so he could wipe off his overpriced sunglasses, and everyone I could see in the other cars was laughing at him. Also, later, the guy who was tailgating me so close I couldn't see his headlights after playing lane hopscotch? Decided to do so in front of one of the city's finest, and it was the first moment in a long time I liked cops again* when those lights started flashing.

Hopefully, I will have a new office chair and a new mattress (and a new source of debt in exchange for sleeping through the night comfortably) by the end of this weekend. My mattress is 15 years old now, and it's miserable. Oy. The chair in my office was my Dad's, and it's a honking big blue upholstered nightmare that tips backwards crookedly and has no support nor can it get close enough to the desk to type comfortably. Nostalgia is not always a good reason to keep things, folks. So Sayeth Teh Kitteh.

* Yes, they're human like the rest of us, but the ones around here make ridiculous amounts of money for being on 12-hour powertrip shifts, and most of the ones I've met tend to be condescending pricks about things, or walk with a ridiculous swagger. I'm not fond of people who misuse positions of power.

Oy.

I am the (proud?) new owner of another sizeable debt. But it's a good one! It's the queen size of the same (more or less) mattress that Mom has. The one that Heals All Ills and Is Just That Fucking Awesome. The one that means if I go to bed feeling sore, I won't wake up feeling WORSE. (Queen size because my feet hang off twin- and full-size mattresses and frankly, I like sleeping stretched out, not curled up into a ball.) I *may* look into a cash advance on my Visa to pay it off before year-end to avoid the 22% interest rate otherwise. Current plans include paying off said Visa in the next 2 paydays, then asking the credit union to up the limit substantially. I apparently have pretty decent credit, if the speed of authorizations like this is any indication.

This mattress, however, comes with an upgrade: the box spring isn't really a box spring (as the mattress does not need it - only coil-spring Sealy Posturepedic types do), but is, in fact, a storage system - 2 drawers per side that pull out, and when closed, look just like the box spring should. It's pretty swank. We also threw in a Tempur-pedic pillow, because that was awesomely comfy (though the beds don't do a thing for me). :D

This Saturday, barring any delays or backorders, I will have a mattress that I can sleep the whole night through on. And like everything else in this house, I will use it until it BREAKS. Or sags until I can only sleep somewhat comfortably on the outer edge of the damn thing. Anyway.

Also priced quality office furniture, and I can get the bookshelf, desk, hutch, and a cabinet for about $2K with delivery. Given that I need two 72" bookshelves at minimum, though more likely three, and another cabinet to hold my Tea items, this is actually a REALLY good deal when all is said and done for $3K-ish. [And before y'all suggest the wonders of Ikea, I would note that these shelves need to hold the weight of a few matched book collections, hard-bound with gold leafing a la the Encyclopedia. Ikea has yet to make a product that does this successfully, and the paperboard backing on most shelving units annoys the piss out of me.] This is a project that will wait, but it's at a place that sells for 50% of retail, so it's a swank deal. Especially as the desktop is a laminate instead of a varnish, which is Way More Practical given that I will be sewing, reading, eating, sleeping, computing, etc. on it.

[Note for reference later: I will be putting the desk setup on the wall where the bookcases are now, the sewing table under the window, and the bookshelves on the wall near the door. This will make Much More Sense.]

Still haven't ordered a desk chair, though I found the one I want at Staples (in blue; no thanks) - going to order a different fabric color and have it delivered to the house for all of $20 more (plus tax). And then I will have ONE chair in the office, instead of two, one of which is uncomfortable and the other is stationary. Oof.

Now, I need to get Mom out of her chair to go to the grocery store. We need foodz.
